Bigotry is a lifestyle choice, usually supported by those three symbols
I’m sorry but aren’t you being a bigot by saying that everyone who follows the Abrahamic religions is a bigot? Isn’t the whole point of acceptance to ACCEPT people regardless of their PERSONAL religious choices? I understand that there are Christians and Jews and Muslims out there who are not exemplary but isn’t that the same with people of Hindu, Buddhist, Pagan, Wiccan, Agnostic and atheist beliefs? Shouldn’t people be based upon their actions and what they do in their lives rather than simply certain images that are being portrayed of them? If its wrong for these three to point fingers at you then isn’t it wrong vice versa?
What I said is that those religions usually support bigotry, which I know is a very politically incorrect message, but true, nonetheless. Opposition to gay rights and intolerance towards homosexuals have usually came along with a religious message. Should tolerate such personal choices? That would be the same as tolerating racism or sexism, just because it’s someone’s personal choice. Tolerating intolerance is not tolerance, it’s just cowardice wrapped in political correctness. Now, there are some just despite their faith, accept the idea that gay people are just as equal as anyone else. If that were the case for the majority of religious people and for their leaders then the reality would be much different.
You should have probably stated that under your post. While I understand where you are coming from (and yes, I am a Muslim who has nothing against gays, lesbians, etc. That is a choice between them and God or whomever they wish to believe in, as are my choices) you still have to state it. And no, I don’t agree that these three religions support bigotry but that is my opinion and yours is different. It’s wrong to call a whole group of religions bigots when you’re specifying a few things or even a majority of the things. Labeling the whole thing as bigotry is wrong and demeans people’s beliefs, beliefs that help them to be better people in itself. While there are a few (and compared to the majority, they are a FEW) idiots in the world who take matters into their own hands, there are others like me who don’t bother people when they make their own life choices, just as I would rather people not bother me when I make my own. To have mutual understanding between our two sides, we need to communicate, not point fingers. :)
I did stated under my post that such symbols (of religion) usually support bigotry. I don’t really care what you believe, which is indeed your choice; however, if a Muslim (or a Christian, or a Jew) will have something against a gay person, based on their faith, then I’ll point out a finger and call that bigotry. Because that’s what those religions do. I’m sorry if the moderates don’t like that some people point that out, but that’s true, at least until their gods or prophets come down to state otherwise. Because, those who say speak for them make it really clear that gays are wrong and deserve a various range of punishments. Good for you if you don’t bother with what other people do with their lives, hopefully more religious leaders were like that, but again, that’s not the case. And since their gods aren’t coming down to make things clear, I’ll take their word and call bigotry, bigotry, no matter how beloved such set of beliefs is. We need to communicate, I agree with that, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop criticizing the bigotry and hatred religions tend to offer, often disguised as divine revelation that demands not to be portrayed in a bad light.

This doesn’t really work, it spells “bicotry” rather than “bigotry”. The crescent should be going the other way.
If only all the queer religious people would stop oppressing themselves
